Walk the Extra Mile with Stylish Boots
As the winter approaches, it is important in keeping warm feet a top priority. That is why it is crucial to make the right decision when purchasing winter boots.
For the majority of us, this not only includes keeping our tootsies toasty, but also having them looking good at the same time. But can we have both? We all have a bit of fashionista in us, and our boots need to reflect that.
With those of us living in climates that dip down below freezing and have snow, it is a must that we find the best boot for our buck. That means they have to be functional as well as comfortable.
The type of boot you buy also depends on how they will be used. Do you participate in outdoor activities or do you merely need something to keep you warm while driving to work or jumping on a bus? Will you be doing a lot of walking, shovelling snow, hiking in the wilderness?
It really is a matter of necessity, taste and preference.
So what should you look for? Boots should primarily be based on your needs. If you spend time outdoors, you need to find boots that fit you properly. These must cover your feet and ankles, and if going into deep snow, they have to come up high enough and can close tight enough so that snow doesn’t go inside and cause you to get wet and cold.
You must have something that is able to stand up to harsh winter conditions. You need protection from snow and cold, traction against icy condition and warmth for temperatures that dip down below freezing not to mention being waterproof. Some boots are already waterproofed, others, such as fashion leather boots need to be done to protect them against moisture.
You can purchase silicone spray at your local shoe or department store that will do the trick and protect your investment. This is especially true for salt stains that would ruin them quicker than you could imagine. Use vinegar and water, equal parts, to remove the salt stain and then condition them with spray, finishing with a polish. Boots also need to be stored on a boot tray to preserve their shape when not in use and last but not least, check the heels. If they show any signs of wear and tear, take them to be repaired.
There are a variety of boots such as snow, rain, hiking and Pac. Each type will give you different types of protection and you may need to purchase more than one pair depending on your winter needs.
Snow boots are usually above the ankle, and are good for walking in snow as well as outdoor activities that don’t require deep snow. Pac boots are also ankle high, include a liner that can be taken out and dried, and are great for cold, outdoors sporting activities. Hiking boots usually cover the ankle, don’t have liners and are best suited for hiking in cold and damp conditions.
Now for those that simply cannot have anything that isn’t stylish, there are a multitude of boots for you to choose from that will not only keep your feet warm and dry, but will hold up to even the harshest fashion critics.
These stylish boots come in a variety of lengths, material (leather, suede, rubber, etc.) with different heel heights (flats for the cautious, the wedge for those who want some height and foot control and stiletto for those that have to be stylish and sexy no matter what) and non-slip soles for the girl who would rather be safe than sorry!
Getting the right fit can be a bit more difficult that ordering your favourite pair of shoes. Boots fit differently and you will most likely need to try on different sizes to see what fits better when it comes to having something higher up your leg. Do you want pull on, lace up or zip up? All of these factors play into the size and feel of the boot as everyone’s calf and foot width differ.
Keep in mind you get what you pay for. Sad but true opting for the “cheaper” set might not necessarily do the trick. With winter boots, buying the best pair you can afford and doing your research will yield the best results.
